Knives are among the oldest tools known to man and have been used in many different ways throughout history. Today, knives are used for a variety of purposes, from cutting through food to self-defense. There are numerous types of knives available, each designed for its own specific purpose. Here is an overview of some of the most common types of knives.

Butterfly Knives, also known as Balisong Knives, are folding pocket knives that feature two handles counter-rotating around the tang of the blade. This type of knife is commonly used in martial arts and trick performances due to its butterfly-like movement when opening or closing.

Automatic Knives are spring-loaded pocket knives that open automatically when a button or switch is activated. These knives are also known as switchblades and are illegal to carry in many parts of the world so it’s important to check your local laws.

Pocket Knives are small folding knives that fit easily into a pocket and can be safely carried around with you. These knives usually feature blades of 2 to 4 inches in length and can be used for a variety of purposes, including cutting rope or opening packages.

Disguised Knives are designed to look like everyday items such as pens, brushes, combs, and even credit cards, but they feature sharp blades which can be used for self-defense.

Throwing Knives are specialized knives designed for throwing at a target. They often have weighted handles to help ensure that they fly straight and true when thrown. Throwing knives can be used for both sport and self-defense purposes.

What are some features of Knives?

Knives come in a variety of shapes and sizes, each designed to fulfill a specific purpose. Blades can be straight or curved, be single or double-edged, and have different types of points. Handle materials range from metal to plastic and even stainless steel. Some knives even feature ergonomic handle designs to ensure a secure grip regardless of the task at hand. Specialized features such as serrated edges and saw blades are also available on certain knives.

The laws and legalities for knives vary greatly depending on the location. It is important to research your local laws before purchasing or using a knife of any kind. In most areas, pocket knives with blades fewer than four inches in length are considered legal to possess; however, larger blades may be illegal to carry without a permit.
